If you’ve ever been delayed on a flight and sat taxiing on a runway behind a line of planes waiting to takeoff then you know how your customer feels when there is a snag up ahead that has caused your paint booth to malfunction.
You can’t afford for them to start pulling out of line. Resolve some of the most common paint booth issues before they happen with these simple tips from Accudraft Paint Booths.
Clean and Replace Your Filters!
The simplest and usually the primary reason for your paint booth to start acting up is because your filters are clogged. For many it is because you simply haven’t spent enough time organizing your shop to the point that you have regularly scheduled maintenance checks where inspecting your filters is at the top of the list.
You must always clean and or replace your filters on a regular basis to keep your paint booth running smoothly. Sometimes the type of paint you use and certainly the type of filtration system you use makes all of the difference.
At Accudraft we have developed our Waterborne Paint and Paint Drying System to replace the more toxic and vent-clogging solvent-based paints. We also sell our Accudraft KD Air Makeup Unit to vastly improve air filtration inside of the paint booth.
Your paint booth uses several different types of filters that need monitoring and changing at different intervals. You can give intake filters the eyeball test to know if they are ready to be changed when you can see that they are filled up with debris. Exhaust filters need changed more regular; every two to three weeks for high volume shops.
Keep the Line Moving
Part of what you can do to help prevent common issues in your paint booth is to prepare early. Most paint booth operators are required to maintain an on-site paint mixing room and or prep room. When there is a vehicle already being coated in your one paint booth, the other vehicles should be moving along the prior step along the process.
By spending a little time calculating the amount of time for each part of the process in your shop compared to your volume you can greatly improve the efficiency of your entire operations. Your Accudraft Paint Booth can do a lot but it can’t do it all for you. Develop a good plan for keeping the line moving outside of the paint booth and you can prevent down chain snafus.
Treat Each Job like Surgery
Some paint booth operators install the booth but do nothing to change their day-to-day operations. Our paint booths are designed to cut the time it takes to do each vehicle in half. With an Accudraft Paint Booth, the booth does a lot of the work.
However, that only goes so far if you don’t have an action plan in place for how you want the operation to move. One of the things that we offer that you can’t get with most other paint booths is a manufacturer style finish. But if your workers are traipsing through the paint booth area with uncovered shoes and a dusty jacket, the job is going to suffer.
Our advice is to treat each job like surgery. The car is the patient and your paint booth is the sterile environment. There are access points that just anybody off the street are not permitted to enter in a hospital, and the same should apply to your paint booth.
When you treat each job like it is an operation where precision counts, you are practically guaranteed to have a successful shop. Just make sure that your daily booth maintenance is kept up to speed with your new operational procedures.
